As a result of this action Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat and said "it certainly was time for someone to stand up". She was later arrested and taken into custody. Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. was elected pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. On December 5, 1955 over 5000 people joined together to hear him speak.
